Mona Sarmadi is a partner and the head of the New York Workers’ Compensation Practice Group. She is committed to the defense of self-insured entities, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators. Mona has tried numerous cases and has made appearances at all of the New York State hearing points, she is very familiar with the workers’ compensation law judges and claimant’s counsels involved in her field, providing her clients with an advantage.

Mona has extensive experience in analyzing, negotiating and drafting Section 32 settlement agreements as well as stipulated agreements. She has handled numerous trials and depositions of medical witnesses and has performed legal research, drafted and filed multiple appeals.

Prior to joining the firm, Mona worked at a large workers’ compensation defense firm in New York City. While there, she served in many roles, including representing self-insured employers, carriers, and third-party administrators at hearings before the Workers’ Compensation Board. She draws on that experience to successfully challenge the compensability of claims and aggressively pursues all available defenses.

While in law school, Mona secured a coveted internship at the United Nations-Women Division. She drafted briefs to support missions enhancing women’s economic empowerment in programme countries and monitored policy initiatives on Rule of Law and Transitional Justice issues. She was a member several organizations including the New York Civil Liberties Union, the Legal Association for Women, and International Law Society. Mona also participated in the Everybody Wins Program, a leading nonprofit literacy and mentoring organization, wherein she volunteered her time reading to children on a weekly basis.
