Graham Newsome focuses his practice on employment litigation defending corporations in administrative charges and lawsuits arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as related state laws. Graham has defended religious institutions, private schools, hospitals, as well as corporations within the retail, restaurant and hospitality sectors on a variety of matters, including sexual misconduct and directors and officers E&O claims.

Graham also maintains a practice that includes providing human resources advice and counseling, such as employee handbook drafting and review to employers of all sizes.

Graham’s core strength is his ability to strategize during discovery and in his dispositive motion practice, which has resulted in many favorable outcomes during summary judgment proceedings. Below are several representative matters:

  • Obtained summary judgment for a staffing company in claims brought by former employee alleging wrongful termination in violation of Title VII and the ADEA.
  • Managed mediation that resulted in a highly favorable settlement for humane society pre-suit in claims made by former employee alleging discrimination in violation of Title VII.
  • Managed mediation that resulted in a highly favorable settlement for a well-known pest control company in claims made by a former employee alleging discrimination in violation of the ADA.
  • Obtained summary judgment for a regional hospital in claims brought by a former employee alleging pay discrimination in violation of Title VII and the EPA.
  • Obtained summary judgment for a private university in claims brought by former employee alleging retaliation in violation of Title VII.

Upon graduating from law school, Graham worked as an in-house attorney at a professional association for Georgia educators. Subsequently, Graham became the general counsel for a delivery and logistics startup with over 1,000 employees nationwide. During his time as a general counsel, Graham gleaned that the needs of a business can be reconciled with a company’s legal obligations by finding innovative and practical solutions to complicated legal issues. Graham has also worked for a large labor and employment law boutique. While attending law school, Graham was the notes editor for the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law.
