James Myers has a diverse practice, focusing on construction defect claims, insurance claim disputes and coverage analysis, and real estate errors and omissions. Mr. Myers represents general contractors, subcontractor trades, developers, design professionals and product manufacturers in complex, multi-party construction litigation. He litigated and ultimately achieved a favorable settlement in what was at that time, the largest construction defect law suit pending in the State of Florida. For over a decade, Mr. Myers has successfully defended real estate professionals throughout Florida, and has remained his clients’ sole appointed defense counsel for the entire state of Florida.

Mr. Myers, the managing partner for Chartwell Law’s Fort Myers office, spent his first seven years in practice with a 125-lawyer multi-state corporate firm where he obtained a broad-based litigation background in areas including real property, eminent domain, construction, commercial and residential foreclosures, contract and commercial tort disputes, landlord and tenant litigation, and condominium and homeowners association law.

Mr. Myers is a Florida Supreme Court Certified circuit and county court civil mediator, and Florida Supreme Court qualified arbitrator. His practice also includes commercial contract disputes, products liability, premises liability and personal injury claims in Florida federal and state courts.

Mr. Myers graduated Saint Louis University School of Law, graduating cum laude, ranking 13th in his class of 228. While in law school, he became a member of the Order of the Woolsack (Jesuit school equivalent to Order of the Coif), was inducted in to Alpha Sigma Nu National Jesuit Honor Society, and served as Executive Editor of the St. Louis University Law Journal. Mr. Myers graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Industrial Management.

Prior to law school, Mr. Myers spent seven years as a property and casualty insurance professional in Harleysville, PA. During that time, he achieved both the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) and the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) professional designations. Mr. Myers’ achievement of those professional designations, as well as the advancement of his knowledge from his background in the insurance industry, have benefited him in his ability to analyze and advise on matters relating to insurance coverage.
