John “Jake” Skinner brings over ten years of state and federal civil litigation experience to Chartwell Law. He currently focuses his practice on first-party property claims defense, representing large insurance carriers throughout the state of Florida. Jake prides himself on taking an aggressive and creative, yet practical approach to the practice of law. He welcomes new theories, communication, and collaboration with clients, or prospective clients, on ideas and innovations that can aide in bolstering or establishing a novel defense.
Jake has also purchased, sold, and managed both residential and commercial real estate rentals. His experience in handling property evaluations, as well as building repair, maintenance, and emergencies first-hand has proven invaluable to a comprehensive understanding of the myriad constructions issues presented in the context of a first-party property dispute.
Prior to joining the firm, Jake was the owner of a small general practice in the Northeast. Prior to that, he clerked for the Justices of Massachusetts Superior Court where he gained valuable experience and practical insight into the inner workings and thought processes of the Judiciary. Graduating second in his law school class, he earned a spot on law review, and also worked instructing his fellow students on advanced legal research techniques as the Westlaw representative.
When he’s not practicing law, Jake enjoys spending time with his wife and four children.
