In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Chartwell Law attorneys share their views on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their personal and professional lives.  This week, we hear from Denisse Ibarra of our Miami office.

Can you tell us about a specific experience or Hispanic figure who influenced you?

My parents and grandparents fled Cuba during the Castro revolution when my parents were about 6 years old. Hearing about their experiences and what they had to go through to start a new life here in America - especially without knowing the language - was very impactful for me. It really showed me how one’s perseverance, hard work, and love for family can really get you through some of the most challenging times. Witnessing my parents hard work and success molded me into the person I am today.

How do you view the importance of diversity and inclusion in today’s workplace?

I believe that diversity in the workplace is crucial in today’s time. With today’s social and technological advances, diversity and inclusion are critical in the workforce. It exposes a company to diverse ways of thinking, experiences, and cultures which in turn allows for different methods of problem solving.

What diversity and inclusion changes would you like to see in the future of the legal industry?

I would like to see more open discussions about diversity, some more mentorship programs, and an increase in diverse individuals in leadership positions.
