Avery W. Martinez counsels and defends clients in a wide range of civil litigation matters in both federal and state courts. He focuses his practice on commercial litigation, commercial premises liability, and commercial and consumer product liability.
Avery handles pre-suit investigations, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and alternative dispute resolution. He works closely with clients to evaluate exposure, develop litigation strategies tailored to their business objectives, and manage high-stakes disputes to achieve favorable outcomes.
Prior to joining Chartwell, Avery practiced at a national law firm in Philadelphia, where he represented clients in matters involving contractual disputes, construction defects, and consumer product liability in multidistrict litigation. His experience across a diverse array of litigation matters has provided him with a strong foundation for delivering practical, effective guidance to clients.
During law school, Avery gained valuable experience as a summer associate and law clerk at several Philadelphia-area law firms. He also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Sherry R. Fallon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, where he observed trials, hearings, conferences, mediations, and other legal proceedings. Avery received several academic distinctions, including the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Torts and the Outstanding Student Service Award. He participated in the Intensive Trial Advocacy Program, was a finalist in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society Negotiation Competition, and later served on the organization’s Executive Board as Vice-President and Competitions Chair.
Outside of work, Avery enjoys learning American Sign Language, participating in run clubs, and spoiling his nieces and nephew.
