Brett A. Sean focuses his practice on civil litigation, insurance defense, and electronic discovery matters. He brings more than two decades of legal experience representing clients in a wide range of litigation matters, including construction litigation, product liability, medical malpractice, toxic tort claims, employment disputes, civil rights actions, landlord-tenant matters, and general tort litigation.
Throughout his career, Brett has handled all phases of litigation, including case assessment, pleadings, motion practice, discovery, depositions, court appearances, trial preparation, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings. He has experience working with both plaintiff and defense-side matters and has participated in trial teams involving significant exposure cases. His litigation background includes preparing and arguing motions, conducting fact and expert witness depositions, developing trial materials, drafting jury instructions, and assisting with witness examinations and evidentiary strategy.
In addition to his litigation practice, Brett has extensive experience in electronic discovery and document review. He has supported large-scale investigations and litigation matters involving complex data collection, privilege review, confidentiality assessments, quality control review, and document production. He is experienced with numerous e-discovery platforms and technologies and has worked on matters involving Fortune 500 companies, governmental entities, and institutional clients.
Prior to joining Chartwell, Brett represented municipal entities, law enforcement agencies, employers, insurers, businesses, and individuals in a variety of civil litigation matters. He also gained experience in legal recruiting and legal operations, giving him a broad perspective on the legal profession and client service.
Brett earned his J.D. from Northern Illinois University College of Law, where he served as Lead Articles Editor of the Northern Illinois University Law Review and participated in the Moot Court Society, including the National Trial Competition. He received his B.A. in English from the University of Iowa.
