Christopher Coulson is Of Counsel at Chartwell, where he focuses his practice on general liability and insurance defense matters. He brings more than a decade of experience representing insurance carriers and private clients in a wide range of civil litigation, with an emphasis on efficient case management, disciplined motion practice, effective resolution planning, and practical risk assessment.

Chris regularly advises clients on exposure evaluation and litigation planning, helping guide matters toward cost-effective resolutions. His practice includes managing substantial civil litigation dockets involving personal injury, premises liability, and general negligence claims, as well as handling discovery, depositions, and motion practice in both state and federal courts. He is frequently involved in mediations and settlement discussions and is known for his thoughtful approach to dispute resolution.

Earlier in his career, Chris gained valuable judicial perspective while clerking for a New Jersey Superior Court judge in the Law Division. In that role, he assisted with civil motion calendars, prepared bench memoranda, and participated in settlement conferences, providing him with insight into judicial decision-making that continues to inform his litigation practice.

Chris earned his Juris Doctor from New York Law School and his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Arizona State University. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, as well as the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
