Douglas Parks has built his legal career across notably different areas of law, from insurance and personal injury matters to federal Defense Base Act claims and family law. That diversity of experience has given him the ability to quickly get up to speed on unfamiliar facts and legal issues while keeping sight of the practical concerns driving a client’s case.
Before joining Chartwell, Douglas maintained an active caseload that included divorce, child custody and visitation, support, and other family law matters. He regularly appeared at mediations and temporary and final hearings, negotiated with opposing counsel, prepared and responded to discovery, and advised clients on the risks and potential outcomes associated with different litigation strategies.
Douglas’s earlier legal experience included work involving Defense Base Act claims, personal injury matters, insurance claims, and Social Security disability matters. He has prepared clients for depositions, vocational assessments, and medical evaluations and has attended depositions throughout the United States and overseas. While in law school, Douglas also interned with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division, where he researched issues of first impression and analyzed deposition testimony in support of trial preparation.
Before beginning his legal career, Douglas served in the U.S. Army, including as an Army Ranger and a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Specialist. During his military service, he deployed overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Douglas earned his J.D., cum laude, from Mercer University School of Law, where he served as treasurer of the Student Bar Association and competed on the Mercer Advocacy Council Moot Court Team. He was also a member of Phi Delta Phi, the Veteran Law Students Association, and the Association of Women Law Students. He earned his B.A. in Law and Society, magna cum laude, from Georgia Southern University, with minors in Political Science, International Studies, and Criminal Justice and Criminology.
Outside of his practice, Douglas enjoys traveling, reading, disc golf, movies and television, and video games.
