Hart Schwartz focuses his practice on insurance defense, civil litigation, and commercial litigation. He represents insurers and their insureds in personal injury, property damage, and coverage-related matters, working closely with clients through all stages of litigation. He also frequently assists with commercial litigation matters, including contract analysis and dispute resolution.
Hart has experience managing cases across New York State courts, including Supreme, Civil, City, and Commercial divisions. His practice includes drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, taking and defending depositions, preparing motions, and appearing in court for conferences, oral arguments, and negotiations. He has also handled landlord-tenant disputes and employment-related litigation, giving him a well-rounded perspective on challenging civil matters.
Earlier in his career, Hart gained in-house experience supporting legal and compliance functions for a real estate investment and asset management company. He also served in public interest roles focused on family law, domestic violence matters, housing disputes, and public benefits, where he advocated for vulnerable populations.
Before entering the legal profession, Hart worked in research and policy roles focused on energy, transportation, and urban development. He is a published author and has contributed to studies examining demographic trends, shared mobility, and regulatory frameworks impacting fuel and transportation systems, including a book on the urbanization of the United States and several in-depth consulting studies on energy, transportation, and emerging business models.
Hart earned his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law, an International MBA from the University of Denver, and a Bachelor of Arts from Yeshiva University. He is multilingual, with advanced proficiency in French, Hebrew, and German, and basic to intermediate working knowledge of Spanish and Russian.
