Jonathan M. Bechtel works closely with employers to address workplace disputes, strengthen compliance programs, manage operational risk, and develop policies that align with evolving labor and employment laws across Connecticut and Massachusetts.
He has extensive experience representing employers and employees in discrimination and employment-related matters before the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO), the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD), the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and in state and federal courts. He also assists organizations in investigating workplace complaints and drafts employment agreements, employee handbooks, and internal policies designed to comply with Connecticut and Massachusetts law.
Prior to joining Chartwell, Jonathan was the co-managing member of his own firm, where he oversaw the firm’s labor and employment practice and managed the day-to-day operations of the firm’s office and staff, while also directing its marketing and business development efforts.
Earlier in his career, Jonathan handled a broad range of litigation matters, including defending and advising sports and recreation facilities on general liability, risk management, and employment issues, as well as matters involving transportation and trucking defense, premises liability, and product liability. He has worked with trucking companies and other businesses on accident investigations and regulatory compliance matters, including those involving Department of Labor drug and alcohol regulations and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act.
Jonathan earned his J.D., cum laude, from Duquesne University School of Law. He also holds a Master of Education in Sports Management, Recreation, and Tourism from Springfield College and a B.A. in Psychology from Elon University.
He is admitted to practice in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania (inactive), as well as the United States District Courts for the District of Connecticut, the District of Massachusetts, and the Western District of Pennsylvania.
