John Garcia is Of Counsel at Chartwell, where he brings extensive experience in commercial litigation and personal injury matters. An accomplished trial lawyer, John focuses on developing strong case positions, leading substantive motion practice, and presenting matters effectively before state and federal courts.
John approaches litigation with an emphasis on early issue identification and practical guidance for clients managing challenging disputes. He works closely with clients throughout the life of a case, helping them understand exposure and pursue effective paths toward resolution.
Prior to joining Chartwell, John served in a senior litigation role at a boutique law firm representing both small businesses and large companies. Before that, he represented a major municipal entity in federal civil rights matters. In both roles, he conducted jury trials and handled all aspects of the trial process, including jury selection, opening and closing arguments, evidentiary issues, and direct and cross-examination of witnesses. He maintained an active caseload and frequently appeared in mediations and settlement conferences, developing a strong command of case evaluation and resolution strategy. John also has meaningful supervisory experience, mentoring junior attorneys and guiding them through motion practice, court appearances, and case strategy.
John earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Brooklyn Law School, where he served as an Articles Editor for the Brooklyn Law Review and was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society in its trial division. He received multiple CALI Excellence for the Future Awards, including in Trial Advocacy and Constitutional Law. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, with a minor in Economics, from The College of William & Mary.
John is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
