Julian Rheams focuses his practice on civil litigation. Before joining Chartwell, he served as an assistant district attorney in Georgia, where he handled misdemeanor and felony matters and developed significant litigation experience representing the state throughout the prosecution of criminal cases.

As a prosecutor, Julian managed cases throughout the entire process, working with law enforcement on investigations, reviewing evidence, determining appropriate charges, and negotiating plea agreements. He regularly appeared in Magistrate and Superior Court for bond and preliminary hearings, probation and bond revocations, and other proceedings. His experience also includes drafting and arguing motions and preparing cases for trial, including developing witness examinations, preparing witnesses, organizing evidence, and drafting jury charges and opening and closing arguments.

Julian developed additional trial and courtroom experience while in law school through prosecution internships and the University of Georgia School of Law’s Prosecution Clinic. He assisted with felony trials, including serving as second chair in murder cases, conducting direct examination, and introducing witness evidence. He also researched and drafted briefs addressing evidentiary and constitutional issues arising in criminal proceedings.

Julian earned his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as Executive Online Editor and Executive Symposium Editor for the Georgia Criminal Law Review. He earned his B.A. in Political Science, cum laude, from Morehouse College, where he was captain of the tennis team and represented student-athletes through the NCAA Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Outside of his legal practice, Julian enjoys tennis and pickleball.
