Liz Janney’s practice is informed by a unique combination of legal, human resources, and busi-ness experience, providing her with a practical understanding of workplace dynamics, compli-ance issues, risk management, and litigation strategy.
Prior to joining Chartwell, Liz served as a judicial law clerk in the 16th Judicial Circuit of Jackson County, Missouri, where she managed motion practice and docketing for civil and do-mestic matters, conducted legal research, drafted orders, and assisted with trial preparation and courtroom proceedings. She also gained experience through internships and clerkships involv-ing employment law, insurance regulation, civil litigation, and regulatory compliance.
During law school, Liz served as Lead Articles Editor for the UMKC Law Review and earned multiple academic honors, including the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in the Entre-preneurial Legal Services Clinic. Through her clinical work, she advised entrepreneurs and small businesses on organizational structure, governance documents, contracts, licensing agreements, and trademark matters.
Before entering the legal profession, Liz spent nearly three decades in human resources leader-ship and consulting roles across a variety of industries. She advised executives, managers, and counsel on employment matters involving workplace investigations, compliance, benefits ad-ministration, compensation, leave management, and employment policies. Her extensive pro-fessional background provides valuable insight into the operational and human considerations that often arise in litigation and risk management.
Liz earned her J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and her B.A. in English from Wittenberg University. She is admitted to practice in Missouri.
