Stefan Ebaugh is an accomplished litigator with two decades of experience representing clients in commercial disputes in state and federal courts as well as in domestic and international arbitrations. He has handled matters involving breach of contract, partnership and corporate governance conflicts including business divorces, real estate disputes, insurance coverage, negligence, and construction disputes including New York Labor Law claims.
Stefan advises both businesses and individuals, providing solutions-oriented counsel that addresses not only the legal issues at hand but also the broader business and reputational concerns at stake. Over the course of his career, Stefan has achieved significant results for clients, including favorable verdicts, successful dispositive motions, and settlements that dramatically reduced liability exposure or substantially exceeded prior offers.
He has represented clients through every stage of litigation—from pleadings into discovery, motion practice including dispositive motions and oral arguments, and trials including associated preparations for trial and pre-trial motions—building strong cases grounded in thorough analysis and careful strategy. While previously at the New York City Law Department (Corporation Counsel), Stefan defended New York City as first-chair trial attorney in multiple jury trials.
Stefan earned his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, where he served as Articles Editor for The Columbia Journal of European Law and completed a judicial externship with Magistrate Judge Andrew J. Peck of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan with a triple major in philosophy, history, and German language and literature, and studied abroad for four semesters at German universities in Tübingen and Freiburg.
He is fluent in German, admitted to practice in New York, and admitted before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Outside the office, Stefan is an avid runner, photographer, and enjoys visiting museums and national parks.
