Wendy Wiebalk brings more than three decades of diverse legal and leadership experience to Chartwell, where she serves as Of Counsel. A member of both the New Jersey and New York bars, Wendy focuses her practice on general liability and casualty defense in both state and federal court.

During Wendy’s lengthy tenure as an insurance defense attorney, she tried approximately 75 cases to verdict, primarily in the fields of premises liability and automobile negligence, but also in such varied areas as toxic torts, land use, dental malpractice, and election law. During her years in-house, she oversaw catastrophic injury claims and coverage issues, as well as supervising panel counsel. She frequently presented on topics related to legal risk management and provided training to panel counsel and other insurance professionals.

Wendy also developed extensive experience in employment litigation and labor consulting, providing strategic advice to businesses and public entities on matters ranging from workplace investigations and compliance policies to diversity, equity, and inclusion training. Wendy’s background includes hands-on leadership in both the public and private sectors. She served as a Human Resources Director and Assistant City Manager, where she oversaw department operations, benefits programs, claims management, and training initiatives for hundreds of employees.

As a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, Wendy has demonstrated a high level of competence, professionalism, and skill in civil litigation. In 2024, she was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to its five-member Civil Trial Certification Committee, which is charged with evaluating the candidacy of other New Jersey trial attorneys for this rare and respected designation—an honor reflecting her standing in the legal community and commitment to upholding the highest standards of the profession.

Outside the courtroom, Wendy is an active leader in the arts. She currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees for State Theatre New Jersey, a historic nonprofit theater and arts organization, where she has also contributed her knowledge and experience to governance, development, and finance initiatives.

Wendy is also deeply involved in her community through youth sports coaching, choral performance, and amateur athletics. A lifelong runner, she has completed four marathons and more than 20 half marathons. In 2022, she was honored with the Boy Scouts of America Tribute to Women Award.

Wendy earned her J.D. from the College of William & Mary, where she was named the Outstanding Trial Advocate of the graduating class. She graduated from Muhlenberg College cum laude, with Honors in English.
