Kerry Nero brings decades of experience in workers’ compensation law, risk management, and public-sector operations to her role as a Partner at Chartwell. Her practice is informed by years spent advising large employers, managing claims portfolios, and appearing regularly before the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents.
Kerry’s background includes extensive leadership of a self-insured workers’ compensation program covering approximately 18,000 employees. In that role, she oversaw all aspects of claims administration, litigation strategy, settlement evaluation, and regulatory compliance, while managing a multidisciplinary team of legal, claims, payroll, and vendor payment professionals. She regularly represented employers at conciliations, conferences, hearings, mediations, and appeals, and was responsible for assessing exposure, advising stakeholders, and negotiating lump sum settlements.
In addition to her litigation and advisory work, Kerry has significant operational experience. She led major initiatives to modernize claims management and vendor payment systems, transitioned offices to paperless operations through large-scale digitization efforts, and implemented process improvements designed to increase efficiency and accountability.
Earlier in her career, Kerry handled a high-volume workers’ compensation defense practice, representing insurers, self-insured entities, and third-party administrators at every stage of litigation. She has extensive experience drafting motions, memoranda, discovery, and appellate briefs; deposing expert medical witnesses; protecting third-party recoveries under Massachusetts law; and providing training to clients on practice before the Department of Industrial Accidents.
Kerry’s practice also reflects a broader legal foundation, including experience with real estate transactions and disability-related matters. She is licensed as a Massachusetts real estate broker, which adds a practical dimension to her understanding of property-related issues and client counseling.
Kerry earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Boston College Law School and her Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Political Science from the College of the Holy Cross. She has been admitted to practice in Massachusetts since 1995 and is a member of the Boston Bar Association.
