(Philadelphia, PA) — Chartwell Law announced today that founding partner Charles (Chuck) Barreras has been named the firm’s first Managing Partner. The appointment marks an important step in Chartwell’s continued growth as the firm is poised to surpass 300 attorneys who represent clients in more than 30 offices across the country.
“Chuck has been a guiding force at Chartwell since day one,” said Dana Bennett, Chartwell’s Chief Administrative Officer. “As we take this next step in our evolution, there is no one better suited to help lead us into the future and to keep us connected to our cultural roots. His leadership and vision have shaped the firm’s success from the beginning, and his collaborative approach will help Chartwell continue its remarkable people-focused approach to growth.”
The is a natural progression from Barreras’s role as Chartwell’s spokesperson over the past two years, where he helped articulate the firm’s vision and direction both internally and externally. In his new role, Barreras will focus on promoting and supporting initiatives targeted at maintaining firm culture, strategic planning, lateral recruiting and integration, and supporting the legal and business operations of the firm.
Barreras has played a central role in Chartwell’s journey from a four-lawyer workers’ compensation boutique in Pennsylvania to a nationally recognized litigation firm representing clients across the United States. His practice focused on general liability, premises liability, workers’ compensation, insurance coverage, and employment law on behalf of domestic and London-based insurance carriers. He has successfully managed all aspects of litigation, including strategy development, investigation supervision, and trial defense in both state and federal courts. Barreras has also served on Chartwell’s Administrative Committee (AdCom)—since that body was created nearly 20 years ago—to help guide and direct the future of the firm.
In addition to his leadership at Chartwell, Barreras served honorably for 14 years in the United States Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Captain before entering the Individual Ready Reserve. Prior to graduating from law school, he also gained experience in claims investigation and adjusting. His unique perspective, drawn from both the insurance and legal sides of the industry, has made him a trusted counselor to clients for more than 30 years.
“Chartwell was founded on the belief that there was a better way to serve clients and build a law firm,” Barreras said. “More than 20 years later, I’m proud of what we’ve built together and honored to take on this role as we continue to grow and innovate.”
Barreras’s leadership comes at a pivotal moment for Chartwell, which has expanded rapidly in recent years. With offices now spanning more than 20 states and a national reputation in areas such as insurance defense, insurance coverage, transportation, workers’ compensation, and commercial litigation, Chartwell is poised to continue its trajectory as one of the fastest-growing firms in the country.
