(Philadelphia, PA) — In a significant move that accelerates its growth across Texas, Chartwell Law has added the entire Dallas-based team from The Bassett Firm, including Founder and Managing Partner Mike Bassett, along with 41 attorneys and professional staff. This move establishes a major Chartwell presence in Dallas while further strengthening the firm’s presence in Texas, as well as its nationally recognized transportation and trucking litigation practice.

Mike Bassett is widely respected in the trucking and transportation defense community and is known nationally for his leadership within organizations such as the Defense Research Institute (DRI). In addition to his extensive trial practice, Bassett is also a sought-after mediator, bringing decades of experience resolving transportation and catastrophic injury cases.

For more than 24 years, Bassett led The Bassett Firm as a trial-focused litigation practice known for preparing every case as though it will go to trial. The firm’s attorneys bring substantial courtroom experience to Chartwell, having collectively tried more than 300 cases to verdict in courts across Texas and throughout the United States. Their approach emphasizes early case investigation and strong collaboration with clients.

“Mike has built an outstanding firm and an exceptional trial team over the past two decades,” said Chartwell Partner Derek Lloyd, a member of the firm’s Lateral Committee, who will also serve as one of Chartwell’s Liaisons to the new group. “We are honored that he and his colleagues have chosen Chartwell as the next chapter of their practice. Their reputation within the trucking industry, deep trial experience, and strong Texas roots make them an ideal fit for our firm and our clients.”

The addition of the Bassett team is also aligned with Chartwell’s culture of collaboration and professional connection, which continues to drive the firm’s growth across the country. Chartwell has long been known as a destination for experienced trial lawyers who value client partnership and a commitment to excellence in the courtroom.

“We’ve been speaking with Mike Bassett for quite some time,” said Chartwell's Managing Partner, Chuck Barreras. “He was introduced to us by Matt Hefflefinger, one of the leaders of our transportation practice group, who himself joined Chartwell as a lateral just three years ago. The firm and reputation Mike built are undoubtedly impressive, but what attracted us most is that the culture he established aligns closely with Chartwell’s collaborative approach, where each of us works together for the benefit of all.”

“My team and I are excited to join Chartwell,” said Bassett. “The combination creates meaningful synergies for our clients. Chartwell’s clients will benefit from our experience and trial capabilities in Texas, and our clients will gain access to Chartwell’s national platform and extensive resources.”

With this expansion, Chartwell further strengthens its ability to serve transportation, logistics, and insurance clients throughout Texas and nationwide. The move significantly enhances the firm’s trial capacity in one of the country’s most important transportation and trucking litigation venues.
