(Philadelphia, PA) — After more than two decades representing clients on both sides of the Texas trial docket, Eric Gruetzner has joined Chartwell as a Partner in Houston, bringing a distinctive perspective to the firm’s defense of high-exposure litigation.

Eric represents national insurance carriers, manufacturers, retailers, restaurant and hospitality operators, fleet owners, construction suppliers, and other businesses in a broad range of matters. His practice encompasses premises liability, products liability, transportation and commercial auto claims, with a particular concentration in catastrophic injury and wrongful death matters involving significant exposure.

A seasoned trial attorney, Eric has represented both plaintiffs and defendants during his career, giving him valuable perspective into how cases are developed and challenged. He has tried cases to verdict before juries and to the bench in both state and federal courts and has handled multiple appeals.

“Eric brings the kind of trial experience and perspective that is especially valuable in high-exposure litigation,” said Partner Elizabeth Cavallaro. “He understands how to assess a case early and prepare it with trial in mind, all while giving clients a clear picture of their risk. As we continue to grow our team in Texas, attorneys who bring that level of experience and commitment to their clients are exactly what we’re looking for. We’re very excited to welcome Eric to Chartwell.”

Eric’s practice also includes advising insurance carriers on coverage issues involving business and consumer policies, conducting Examinations Under Oath, and preparing coverage opinions. He regularly shares his experience with the insurance industry and has presented on nuclear verdicts and the strategies used by plaintiffs’ counsel in high-exposure litigation.

Eric’s arrival comes as Chartwell continues to expand its presence across Texas. With offices in Dallas and Austin and the recent opening of its Houston office, the firm continues to invest in experienced local attorneys who can serve clients throughout the state while drawing on the resources of a national law firm.

Eric earned his Juris Doctor from Texas A&M University School of Law, formerly Texas Wesleyan School of Law, where he was named to the Dean’s List and inducted into the Order of Barristers. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas A&M University. He is admitted to practice in Texas and before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas.
